Entry requirements
When can I start the Diploma?
You do not need a previous dental qualification. To start, you must:
- Already be working as a trainee dental nurse in a suitable UK dental practice for at least 15 hours per week.
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have sufficient spoken and written English to study and communicate effectively with patients and the dental team.
- Be at least 16 for online or 18 for face-to-face study.
Your practice must offer the range of clinical experience needed for the qualification. An orthodontics-only practice is not suitable for the Diploma's workplace requirements.

The course fee can be paid as an initial £390 payment followed by eight monthly payments of £175. We will explain the payment terms and when the separate examination fee is due before you enrol.
Career progression
Where can the Diploma take you?
After successfully completing the Diploma, you can apply for registration with the General Dental Council as a dental nurse, subject to meeting its requirements. With experience and further training, you may explore dental radiography, oral health education, fluoride varnish application, practice management or teaching. Separate qualifications or requirements apply where relevant.
